I don't know about you, but "Live Below the Line" has been littered across my newsfeed and instafeed all week. I know a bit about the campaign, but I thought, for this weeks "Support it" I'd interview someone on the inside and hopefully encourage others to participate - whether through doing LBL yourself, or supporting those who are.

What's Live Below the Line all about?
LBL is about living below the poverty line, just like 1.4 million people around the world live today. The challenge is to feed yourself on $2 a day, for 5 days. Money raised goes towards education in Cambodia and Papua New Guinea.
Why have you decided to do it?
I decided to participate in LBL because I’m a Christian!
Jesus, who is God, was rich and for my sake became poor. He gave up everything - Born in animal trough, lived a homeless life, and died on a cross. And he calls me to follow Him. LBL seemed like a really tangible way to obey that call.

What have you chosen to eat?
Well there’s not a lot of choice on $2 a day – so I’ve gone for carbs, carbs and more carbs! Oats for brekkie, rice for lunch and pasta for dinner. Also managed to pick up a kilo of carrots for 99 cents, and a tin of cheap baked beans that I’ve been rationing out!

What's the hardest thing about LBL?
There have been a few hard things about it. For me I’ve found I haven’t actually been that hungry as I’ve been eating large portion sizes – but what I have discovered is that I’m really bored and unsatisfied with the tastes and flavours. Meal times are usually the highlights of my day but this week I’ve lost my interest in it. It’s also been hard having to keep on doing business as usual, studying and working!

What's the easiest?
I wouldn’t say it’s been easy, but the best thing about doing LBL has been doing it as a community. I’m part of a church called Macquarie Anglican and we’ve formed a LBL team! Not only have we been able to benefit from bulk buying, but also it’s been a constant source of encouragement to know you aren’t the only one eating plain rice!

What would you say to those thinking about doing LBL later this or next year?
Do it! Its hard but a very eye opening experience. Gather a team and sign up!
