Support it; Blackout

We all knew it wouldn't be long before Open Doors made a mention on "Support it" but with Blackout mere weeks away I thought I'd give it a plug.

Open Doors is an organisation working to raise money, prayer, and awareness for persecuted Christians around the world. I'm on the youth team, and one of the events that we've designed for youth and young adults is Blackout.

If you want to participate, the idea is that on the 28th-30th June, for 48 hours you give up some form of communication - be it speaking, talking, texting, facebook - whatever, and ask friends and family to sponsor you. That money then goes to helping Christians being persecuted in other countries.

The idea behind the campaign is that we're making a loud noise by staying silent - doing something counter cultural to let people know about those persecuted. In this way we're speaking up for those who don't have a voice.

If you can't, or are not interested in giving up something for 48 hours, I'd encourage you to support someone who is, buy some merchandise and most importantly, make time to pray for those who are persecuted. You can pray specifically for countries by finding out a bit more about them here http://www.worldwatchlist.us/utm_source=opendoorsusa.org&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=(none)
